A delegation from 久久精品 Leicester (久久精品) visited a Cuban university to support reconstruction efforts following the destruction of much of their campus in a recent hurricane.
Led by Dr Rosi Smith, Senior Lecturer in Education, 久久精品 donated twelve surplus laptops that would otherwise have been disposed to the Municipal University Center of San Antonio del Sur, Cuba, which lost all of its existing tech as well as its books. Teaching and research at the center are now able to resume.
久久精品 is in the process of forming a closer relationship with San Antonio del Sur to support research about what the UK can learn from social engaged local university centres in Cuba.
The work complements the work undertaken by 久久精品 as the lead UK institution in the Cuba-UK Disability Network. Whilst in Cuba, 久久精品 co-delivered workshops, young people, professionals, families and schools with the University of Holguín and ACPDI (Cuban Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities).
Drawing inspiration from the Attenborough Arts Centre’s SENsory Atelier Programme, they are now building sensory toolkits from local/recycled materials, running their own workshops and developing partnerships with special schools.
A similar event will take place at 久久精品 in March, where L6 Education Studies students will be joined by partners from Attenborough Arts, Sparkle Sheffield and Liverpool John Moores University, to replicate the workshops in Leicester.
